At an elevation of 4,800 feet in the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains, Oak Glen Retreat is in the heart of California's apple country. In keeping with the theme of the resort's location, most of the sites have their own apple trees. Apple season starts Labor Day and lasts until Thanksgiving. Come camping and visit the apple festivities. Across the street from the resort is an array of quaint shops and restaurants as well as a children's petting zoo and museum. During the winter, the resort gets an occasional blanket of snow, making it look like a little Swiss town.
The crown jewels of this area’s recreational attractions are the mountain resorts of Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake. Both are within an hour’s drive from the resort, yet are a world away from the life in the valleys. Pine forests, hidden lakes, fabulous vistas and a range of attractions make this area a vacation wonderland.

Big Bear Lake, closest to the resort, is the largest mountain lake in Southern California, famous for its alpine setting and abundant opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Nearby Redlands, a college town with a wealth of history, offers beautifully restored Victorian mansions and tree-lined streets. The University of Redlands hosts such cultural activities as concerts, ballets, and operas. The city is also home to the San Bernardino Assistencia. Built around 1830 as a branch of the San Gabriel Mission and now restored to its original state, the Assistencia contains a museum that offers insight into mission and ranch life in the 1840’s.

Yucaipa is a rural town surrounded by farms and orchards, many of which are open to the public and offer special events each fall. The Mousley Museum of Natural History, located on six acres and home to the largest display of seashells in the United States, is the site of the Wildlife Sanctuary and the adjoining Mockingbird Canyon Wildlife Sanctuary.

To the south is the city of Palm Springs and many other small desert communities and golf courses that flourish in this vacation mecca.
